Wildlife in Sea View Estates

To help you and others stay safe on the trails please read the following:

It is extremely important for the safety of you, others in your group, as well as your dog to keep dogs on a leash and under owner control at all times while walking on the trails, the bridge and the dunes. Once you get to the beach it’s safe for dogs to be off leash.

When walking the trail to the beach you may encounter deer, coyotes and/or bears.  These animals will usually see you before you see them and move away to avoid contact with you.

But sometimes you may encounter them unexpectedly.  Here’s what to know about these animals:

  • Deer will walk or run away from you if you are coming too close to them.
  • Coyotes will also run away from you whenever they see you.
  • Bears don’t usually run away in fear like deer or coyotes, especially if they have their cub(s) with them.  If you come face to face with a bear, the following are suggested by the National Park Service:
    • Do not turn and run away.
    • Do not yell or scream.
    • Do wave your arms slowly above your head and talk in a calm voice.
    • Do back away slowly until the bear loses interest in you, then retreat to where you came from until the bear has gone away.

There’s a lot more to learn about bear encounters, but these are the basics.

Go to this website to get more detailed information about bear encounters:

Stay safe on the trails and enjoy the beach!
